The resources were co-designed by Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA) and developed in consultation with disability organisations and education bodies across Australia. The resources are designed to provide guidance to help parents, caregivers and students communicate and resolve concerns with their education provider. 

The resources are:

  • Steps to raise concerns and resolve a complaint with your school: supports parents and caregivers of students with disability to raise, escalate and resolve concerns with their school 
  • How to advocate: for students with disability to help build self-advocacy skills. It also provides guidance on how to raise and resolve concerns with education providers and includes links to further information and support services 
  • Getting started: for parents and caregivers of students with disability from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. It helps to increase awareness of disability and the Australian education system 
  • Be a disability ally: an animation for all primary and secondary students and explores the rights of students with disability to participate in every part of school life. The video also encourages students without disability to become allies to students with disability
  • A day at school: an animation for primary school students with disability and their parents and caregivers. It discusses the rights of students under the Disability Standards for Education 2005, reasonable adjustments, and inclusion in education.
