As part of the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan, the University of Adelaide has developed a free, online Explicit Teaching microcredential course for teachers and other school-based educators. Registrations for the course are now open.

This Explicit Teaching course covers how teachers can make the most of the learning in their classroom, effectively teach new curriculum content, and foster student understanding using evidence-based strategies that can be adapted to support the needs of diverse cohorts of students. The course contains 4 stand-alone modules with 12 hours of content per module. Each module can be done at the teacher’s own pace, to fit in around their other commitments.

A course on Classroom Management was released in July, and one more microcredential in Teaching Phonics will be rolled out in early 2025.

The programs are available to teachers and other school-based educators, at no cost, until the end of June 2026.

The microcredential courses also include a nationwide online community where educators can engage in discussion, connect with other educators across Australia, and leave ready to create and foster a well-managed classroom with high learning expectations.

The courses deliver on Action 18 in the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan which addresses the national issue of teacher workforce shortages. The University of Adelaide contract is part of the Government’s $5 million investment to develop and deliver evidence-based microcredentials for teacher professional development.

All microcredential courses are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and are designed to be recognised by Teacher Registration Boards.
