Up to $5,000 is available for Year 12 students from regional or remote areas leaving home to study at university.
Applications are open for first-year students to apply for the Tertiary Access Payment. A payment of either $3,000 or $5,000 is available depending on where their family home is located.
The Tertiary Access Payment is a means-tested payment to regional or remote school leavers who relocate to study at an education provider located at least 90 minutes by public transport from their family home.
The one-off payment can help students to pay for items such as rent, travel expenses, food or study supplies once they have moved.
The payment helped Ronald when he relocated from Mildura to attend La Trobe University in Melbourne.
“It was my first time moving away from home which means I had to face some things like paying rent. I didn’t have enough savings when going into uni and I feel like it helped me a lot. I would highly encourage people to apply,” said Ronald.
Applications close on 31 December 2025. To find out more, visit Services Australia.
